Abraham Lincoln today is widely considered to be the greatest president that America has ever seen, in fact he has more books written about him than any other topic second only to the bible! Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in a log cabin in Hardin County, Kentucky. He was the son of Thomas Lincoln a well known lawyer, and Nancy Hanks Lincoln. Prior to his presidency he studied law, he was member of the Whig party and was elected to the Illinois state legislature. He was married to Mary Todd with which she had 4 children which only one Robert Lived to adulthood. He was Elected to office in 1860, he was elected 2 terms but didn't complete the second as he was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth April 14, 1865, when which he no longer belong to the nation but to the ages. He was the overseer of a nation split down the middle, and without his sacrifice the country would have only been half as big today.

This pen was used by Abraham Lincoln to sign the Emancipation Proclamation which solidified the Union's position on slavery. Although it was symbolically important, legally, it actually didn't do very much at all.

Abraham Lincolns' letter to Mrs. Bixby portrays his desire to end the bloodshed. It also shows how he can relate to her because of his sons who are fighting, that the war had a personal effect on him as well.

This letter to Horace Greeley, the editor of the New York Tri shows that Abraham Lincoln had to give up his personal opinion of slavery for the betterment of the Union. Through the letter he explains his intentions over his policy, in that the sole purpose is to save the Union.
