Jefferson Davis's memory has been surrounded by infamy over the course of history post civil war. Jefferson Davis was born in Christian County, Kentucky, on June 3, 1808. Jefferson Davis was a highly skilled military officer, he graduated from West Point Military Academy. He was part of the regiment that captured chief Blackhawk in the Blackhawk war. He then went on to be a cotton farmer after the war to prepare for his government position. He was Appointed secretary of war in 1853 by Pres. Franklin Pierce, and soon after in conjunction with the formation of the confederacy was named the President of the Confederate Sates of America. When the was was finished he was charged with treason and was released on bail. Although his memory is clouded and judged by the cause which he represented it is undeniably true that he acted on what was given to him, and was truly a compassionate man and phenomenal orator.

The pipe symbolizes the southern way of life. A highly agrarian society that was bent on saving their culture, and believed that slavery was one of the tenants in that lifestyle.
